Brynhildr in the Darkness summary:
As a child, Ryouta Murakami had a friend named Kuroneko who tragically died in an accident. Her death sparked a new obsession in Ryouta as he continued her mission of investigating extraterrestrial life. Despite spending a decade on this journey, Ryouta was unable to find any evidence supporting the existence of aliens, and he found himself alone in the Astronomy Club. Everything changed when he met Neko Kuroha, who bore a striking resemblance to Kuroneko, but denied knowing Ryouta before disappearing with a chilling warning. Unbeknownst to him, Neko is a witch who escaped from a lab where scientists had been enhancing people's abilities to wield magic. Ryouta decides to defend the other oppressed witches, and as he investigates the connections between Neko and Kuroneko, he discovers hidden truths that allow him to both protect the witches and unlock the mysteries of his past.
